Mobile Phone Internet Access More Popular
April 20, 2006 (FinancialWire) As mobile phone use worldwide continues to grow, it should not be surprising that the number of people using phones to access websites such as Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Yahoo (NASDA: YHOO) is also climbing.
According to a recent study released by the market research firm Ipsos Insight, checking email and browsing websites is becoming a more common thing to do on one's phone, in some places replacing laptops in growth.
In Europe and Asia, widespread use of wireless networks and expanding 3G phone technologies has made the expansion more obvious. In some countries wireless phones have replaced traditional Internet access altogether.
The study found that in some Asian nations, 90% of the population owned a mobile phone, compared to about 75% usage in the US. The findings were based on a sample of 6500 adults in 12 countries.
